Stephen B Whatley is constantly inspired by the environments around him; painting on location whenever possible. He also takes his drawing book with him when travelling; accumulating drawings capturing the shapes and colours he feels, that inspire his paintings.

In recent years he has worked on location in New York and been commissioned to paint views from the soaring heights of Mid-Levels in Hong Kong.
