CARTOON-INSPIRED FINE ART
Stephen B. Whatley has always had a fascination with cartoons – particularly the animated cartoons of Hanna-Barbera Productions, which were so prevalent on television during his 1970s childhood – and has sporadically paid tribute to some of these enduring characters, together with cartoon icons created by other studios.
The paintings are not mere interpretations of the character but seek, through the inspiration of a montage of selected source material (including freeze frame photographs taken by the artist) to capture a deeper essence of the characters – and often painted in significant anniversary years.
Presented in this section you will find a selection of both commissioned and sold works and original works available for purchase.
