Saint Marcellin Champagnat. 2018 by Stephen B. Whatley
A tribute to Marcellin Champagnat (1789-1840), French Founder of the Marist Brothers.
The artist was inspired to paint this tribute, created on his Feast Day, after being
commissioned by the Marist Brothers in Canada to paint The Good Mother, learning of
this Patron Saint of Students. The artist was especially moved to learn of Marcellin
Champagnat’s concern at finding a dying teenager with no knowledge of God –
which encouraged him to form the Marist Brothers.
